The 75-recipient allowance is per credit, not pooled — 4 credits means 4 mailings of up to 75 each. Unused allowance doesn't bank.

Credits expire 24 months from purchase. You can bank up to 6 at once — if a renewal would push you past that, we pause it instead of charging you. Cancel any time and banked credits stay usable for 90 days.

About postage

All updates mail First-Class. That costs a little more than bulk mail — and it's worth it: First-Class mail is forwarded when your ministry partners move, arrives in days instead of weeks, and carries a real stamp. Postage is billed at exact cost as a separate line item. No markup, ever.

How does the voice memo thing work?
You talk; we write. Record 3–5 minutes on your phone — what happened, what mattered, what's next — and send it with a few photos. We turn it into a written, designed ministry update in your voice and send you a draft to approve before anything prints.
What does the price include?
A credit is one complete ministry update, produced start to finish: a voice memo or a 20-minute call — however you want to tell us what's happening — we write it, we design it, unlimited revisions until you approve it, nothing prints without your written approval, printing and materials for your first 75 recipients, and we stuff, stamp, and mail it. All the writing and design is included regardless of list size — the work is the same for 40 people as for 400, which is why the credit price doesn't change. A single credit is $159; The Year is $499 for 4 credits.
What if I have more than 75 people on my list?
Recipients beyond 75 are $0.69 each, charged at send. So a list of 150 adds $51.75 in production, plus postage.
Why is postage charged separately?
Because we don't know the final count until you approve your list, and we'd rather charge exactly what the Post Office charges than pad a flat rate.
Will it sound like me?
That's the whole job. We write from your voice memo, not from a template, and we revise until you're happy — no revision limits, ever. You approve every word before it prints.
I serve in a sensitive location. Can you work within my security constraints?
Yes — our founder served in one too. We follow your security protocol exactly: no location names, no sensitive terminology, pseudonyms where needed, and nothing goes to print without your written approval. How do you get my mailing list?
Send it in whatever shape it's in — a spreadsheet, an export from your donor system, even a photo of an address book. We'll clean it up and confirm it back to you, and we keep it updated for you on The Year. Your list is never shared, sold, or used for anything except mailing your updates. (See our Privacy Policy.)
What does postage cost?
Postage is passed through at exact cost as its own line item — no markup. Every update mails First-Class, currently $0.82 per piece for a standard letter, so a 150-piece mailing runs about $123.00 in postage. First-Class means your update is forwarded when partners move and arrives in days, not weeks.
What if I don't use my credits?
You have 24 months to use each credit from the day you buy it, and you can bank up to 6 at once. If a renewal would push you past that, we pause the renewal and tell you so — we'd rather hold your money than sell you updates you haven't used. Cancel and your banked credits stay usable for 90 days.
Can I pay monthly?
Paying upfront is how the service works. If that's a genuine obstacle for you, get in touch and we'll find something that works.
How fast is turnaround?
From voice memo to mail stream is usually about a week: draft within 2–3 business days, your approval, then print and mail. First-Class delivery adds 2–5 days. If you have a hard date — a year-end appeal, a furlough announcement — tell us and we'll work backward from it.
I'm overseas. Does that matter?
Not at all — most of our clients are. Everything happens remotely: you send a voice memo and photos from wherever you are, and we print and mail from the United States, where most of your ministry partners' mailboxes are.
What if I don't have anything newsletter-worthy to share?
You do — that feeling is the number one reason updates don't get sent. Ministry partners don't need highlights; they want to feel like they're there with you. An ordinary week, told honestly, is exactly what gets read twice. Tell us the ordinary week and we'll find the story in it.
Do I have to commit to anything?
No. A single credit is exactly that — send one update, see how it goes. The Year is there when you're ready for a rhythm, and it's priced so the rhythm costs less than buying credits one at a time.
Can my sending church or organization pay for this?
Yes, and it happens often. We can invoice a church or agency directly, and The Year can be purchased as a commissioning gift. See “Give as a gift.”
Do you do an email version too?
Every update includes a print-ready PDF you can attach to an email for partners who prefer digital. Print is the main event — open rates on a mailbox are unbeatable — but nobody gets left out.
What happens to my information and my partners' addresses?
They're used to produce and mail your updates. Full stop. We never sell, rent, or share lists, and we'll delete your data on request. Details in our Privacy Policy.
Can I see a sample first?
Yes — sample images are on this site, and we're happy to mail you a physical sample so you can feel the paper stock. Ask through the contact form.
What does design look like? Do I get a say?
Design is included in every credit. We build the layout around your name, your photos, and your colors, then revise it until you're happy with it — there's no design fee and no revision limit.
